Bonfiglioli has been present in India since 2000 and has always considered this great country to be part of humanity’s heritage, not only for its traditions, but for the moral and historical values that India has contributed to the social and cultural development of the world.

Bonfiglioli’s Chennai factory is now well established as one of the key plants in our global production strategy. The consolidated success of Chennai’s output of small and medium power gearboxes has led to the plant occupying 27,300 square metres of grounds (and 14,100 square metres of buildings), reaching a turnover of 70 million Euros and employing a workforce of 370.

In order to support India in ways that

extend beyond economics and industry and into the social sphere, we have now inaugurated the “Bonfiglioli CHEERFUTURELAND” project in Manjampadi, about 7 km outside Chennai. The aim of this project is to build a village with all the facilities needed to provide a lasting home for orphaned children and to promote their social and cultural development.

The village is designed to house around 30 children who today are forced to fend for themselves in the streets. Thanks to an agreement between NAMASTE’, an Italian non-profit association, and PREMA VASAM, an Indian association dedicated to recovering and assisting young orphans,  Bonfiglioli has undertaken to finish the first stage of the project and to build a HOME FOR CHILDREN aged between 6 and 14 before the end of 2009. Other developments are planned for coming years to provide a more complete social life for the village.

The children taken into care will be given a home, medical attention, education and the chance to take part in various recreational and training activities. Those who complete their studies and wish to join the world of work in a modern and growing business will also be guaranteed a future job at Bonfiglioli India.

Bonfiglioli is also encouraging its employees and suppliers to contribute to this deserving project of solidarity. All those deciding to join us in this charity initiative will be constantly updated on the progress of work, by way of reassurance that resources are not being wasted.

LGA, the Bologna based law firm that has assisted Bonfiglioli with its commercial and international activities for many years, has already agreed to help. LGA has provided free assistance for the project, helped identify the best possible form of organisation and followed the international legal and contractual issues involved, to ensure maximum efficiency and transparency for the entire process.

Bonfiglioli has received much from India: we have been welcomed into the nation with great generosity and it is for this reason that the Cheerfutureland project has been put in place.
