The latest generation of Bonfiglioli parallel shaft and bevel helical gearboxes
4 June 2008
The development programme for new heavy duty gearboxes that BONFIGLIOLI launched in 2005 when it released the HDP parallel shaft series in sizes 60 to 90 is receiving yet another boost today with the presentation of 5 new sizes in the HDP parallel shaft series and HDO bevel helical series. This expansion of the HDP and HDO series will permit Bonfiglioli to fulfil the needs of industrial applications demanding torque ratings of up to 75,000 Nm, an impressively high figure but, nevertheless, one that is commonly required in the mining, paper, wood and steel manufacturing industries, and many other processing industries. The latest sizes are a natural progression of a general design to which Bonfiglioli applies the most stringent specifications with a view to achieving maximum performance and quality and satisfying the most advanced standards in industry.

The fact that Bonfiglioli’s design objectives evidently match market demand has been confirmed by the excellent sales figures achieved by the first models in the HDP series which, just one year after their launch in 2005, have achieved a high and still growing volume of sales.

The concept behind these heavy duty units has been successfully implemented through the use of high performance materials, carefully selected thermal treatments and the most advanced modern design techniques.

The result is a range of products that even the most experienced manufacturers will find hard to beat. Quite simply they set a new benchmark for the power transmission industry.Bonfiglioli has undertaken a great deal of research not only to ensure unrivalled performance but also to guarantee an extended working life for these new gearboxes and, hence, reduce their overall product costs.
Extensive use was made of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) throughout the design process as well as MBS (Multi-Body Simulations) to ascertain the dynamic effects of stress transmitted between the various components of the gearbox. The result is enhanced structural rigidity and gear geometry for optimised load capacity and gear and bearing life.
Noise emissions and vibrations too, have been kept to an absolute minimum by using structural simulations based on BEM (Boundary Element Method) analysis.
