New challenges for the Group
In 2001 another strategic intuition led to the acquisition of Vectron Elektronik GMBH, a German company specialising in the design and manufacture of high technology inverter drives. This move heralded the start of a process of industrial development that in only a few years established the Bonfiglioli Group as a leading player in mechatronics.
Vectron's arrival in the Bonfiglioli Group permitted the development of new inverters that have proved highly successful and gained an excellent reputation in mechanical and industrial automation applications.
Two years later Bonfiglioli launched its campaign to penetrate the US market and opened new offices in Hebron to develop relations with key account customers like John Deere and Caterpillar and to expand sales generally on this strategic area.
Shortly afterwards, new subsidiaries were opened in China, Singapore, Brazil, Italy and Vietnam too.
The BEST project (Bonfiglioli Excellence Service Team) was also launched in 2003 and led to the creation of the most modern sales organisation on the power transmission market today, based on preferred business partners equipped with all the tools they need to develop their markets independently and to distribute Bonfiglioli products and services in accordance with the strategy agreed with the corporate centre.
In line with the policy of consolidating Bonfiglioli’s role as complete system supplier, in 2004 the Group acquired Tecnoingranaggi, another Bologna-based company with an already well established reputation, specialising in the design and production of reduced backlash planetary gearboxes.
Later, faced with increased demand from a constantly growing market, Bonfiglioli took the decision to expand its production capacity by opening another two factories, the first in Slovakia (2005) and the second in Vietnam (2008).
The Bonfiglioli Group today
Today, the Bonfiglioli Group has 10 production plant and 16 directly owned subsidiaries around the world, employing a total of over 2800 people.
Bonfiglioli offers a complete range of products and boasts an excellent worldwide reputation as a system supplier to many areas of industry including packaging, woodworking, ceramics, movement and handling, engineering, paper, metallurgy, etc.
The Group is the undisputed leader in the supply of power transmission and control systems for a wide range of mobile machine applications, including earth moving machines, cement mixers, cranes, overhead platforms and farm machinery.
Bonfiglioli has also been quick to interpret change and apply this same complete solution approach to the green economy, offering systems for wind and photovoltaic energy, waste and water treatment, and even biomass energy, assuming once again the role of leader in a fiercely competitive and complex global market.
Bonfiglioli’s 50-year evolution from a small Bologna gearbox manufacturer to an industrial grouping able to lead the market and act as a reliable partner in every area it serves has been driven – and still is driven – by a genuine commitment to continuous improvement and a constant quest for new challenges. As flexibility, interpreted as an ability to adapt to different situations, is an indicator of intelligence in man, so the ability to foresee developments in the market is an indicator of future success in business.
The history of Bonfiglioli shows that this skill has played an essential role in achieving the dreams that inspired Clementino Bonfiglioli to set up his small workshop in the mid 1950s.
