Production line for wind turbine gearboxes inaugurated in Brazil

A new production line for planetary gearboxes for the wind turbine sector, occupying 3,000 square metres, was recently inaugurated at Bonfiglioli’s Brazilian branch in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo.
The group’s CEO and chairman, Sonia Bonfiglioli, was present at the opening ceremony. The line’s current production capacity is around 200 units a month, with a single-shift working day, enough to satisfy customer needs according to plans for 2015. In April next year, output will be increased to 250 units a month, still from a single shift , but the possibility of operating a three-shift day will also be considered. Bonfiglioli estimates that the wind turbine market will soon account for some 40% of the earnings of its Brazilian operation.

The new production line is designed to satisfy a weekly programme of deliveries to the country’s leading wind turbine constructors. Other departments in the plant, including Quality Assurance, R&D and Production, have also been re-organised to permit the continuous delivery of series products and to improve the monitoring of the entire supply chain.
